Fostering Accountability and Transparency In Zambia

Through improved engagement between government and the people, FACT strengthened the capacity of local civil society organizations to monitor and improve public services, especially relating to education, health and HIV, sustainable livelihoods, extractive industries, and climate resiliency. Through advocacy training for civil society organizations, and district, provincial, and national dialogue forums, FACT aimed to:
- Advance consistent civil society engagement with government
- Increase civil society capacity in health/HIV, education, sustainable livelihoods, extractive industries and climate resiliency
- Develop and expand access to civic engagement materials
- Facilitate policy changing dialogues
- Support policy change through white papers and recommendations
impact
The program’s successes include:
- 5,805 individuals reached (2,823 men; 2,982 women) through trainings, community sensitization and drama awareness sessions, and FACT public dialogue forums
- 140 women and youth engaged as leaders in civic activities related to service delivery in health, education, and sustainable rural livelihood and climate resiliency
- Almost 50 communities mobilized across eight districts in Lusaka and Eastern Provinces to access FACT’s partners’ services
- 2 networks established: a Social Accountability Network led by Counterpart; and a coalition of advocacy-based organizations formed by partner RICAP
